Led Zeppelin was one of the greatest and most influencial rock bands of all time. Formed in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page, after the break up of the band the Yardbirds, along with singer Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones. The London based band drew their unique music style from the blues and folk music. They released nine albums from years 1968 to 1982, beginning with Led Zeppelin I and ending with the album Coda in 1982.
The bands first two albums Led Zeppelin I and II, were both successes and released in the year 1969. Led Zeppelin's first two albums were more blues influenced but, their music style began to change with the band's release of their third album Led Zeppelin III in 1970, which had a more folk music influence to it. The band's next album Led Zeppelin IV (1971) is one of the greatest and best selling albums of all time featuring such classic songs as Stairway to Heaven, Black dog, and Rock and Roll. The success of the album Led Zeppelin IV pushed the band into superstardom.
Led Zeppelin released their fifth album, Houses of the Holy in 1973 which featured the use of synthesizers and followed up by the double album Physical Graffiti in 1975, both albums were a huge success. However, the band's success was not to last. The next two albums Presence in 1976 and In Through the Outdoor in 1978 drew mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. In 1980 tragedy struck the band, drummer John Bonham died from asphyxiation. The band broke up shortly after his death, feeling that they could not continue on without their dear friend John Bonham. Over the years Led Zeppelin has infuenced many bands such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Queen. They were the template for all the big hair metal bands of the1980's like Whitesnake, Motley Crue , and Guns and Roses but, there was only one Led Zeppelin.
